About The Clean Shelf
Last updated November 2, 2026
The Clean Shelf is a shopping guide to packaged foods made without industrial seed oils (soybean, canola, corn, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed, grapeseed, rice bran) and without artificial colors, preservatives, or sweeteners. It’s built for people who want to stop reading every label in the store.
How products are chosen
- Certified products are taken from the public listings of the Seed Oil Free Alliance (Seed Oil Free Certified®) and the Non-GMO Project (Non-UPF Verified). Each newly added certified product links to its source.
- Uncertified products are included only when the brand’s published ingredient list shows no industrial seed oils or seed-oil derivatives such as soy or sunflower lecithin.
- Every card names one specific product and shows its ingredient list, the date we checked it, and a link to the label source (the brand’s page, a retailer listing, or a certifier’s listing). Cards we couldn’t confirm, or where sources disagree, say “Label not yet verified.”
- Badges appear only when a third-party certification is confirmed, and each names its certifier: Seed Oil Free Certified® (Seed Oil Free Alliance), Non-UPF Verified and Non-GMO Project Verified (Non-GMO Project), and USDA Organic (USDA National Organic Program). The Clean Shelf certifies nothing itself.
- Shop buttons link only to retailer listings we found for that exact product, plus the brand’s site.
- “Recommended” order lists third-party certified products first, then products whose label we verified, otherwise in the guide’s category order. Nothing else, and no payment, affects order.
- The guide is checked every week for new certifications, reformulations, and decertifications, and changes are listed in the app’s What’s New section.
Independence
No brand pays to be listed or ranked. Some shop links may be affiliate links. Affiliate links never affect which products are included or how they’re ordered.
The Clean Shelf isn’t affiliated with any brand listed, the Seed Oil Free Alliance, the Non-GMO Project, the USDA, or The Detox Project.
How it’s paid for
The Clean Shelf is paid for by its readers through subscriptions. Subscription money is what pays for the weekly label checks.

Not medical advice
